My God, the acting in this movie is horrible. Especially the drunk guy and the police detective. The only bright spot was the xenophobic maid.

As a good general rule, people don't act near as well drunk compared to when they are sober. Maybe he came in drunk and they just went with it. Also, the police detective could have been related to the director or someone and was just picking up a little work on the side. Police detectives might not of made much in the pay envelope back then as police don't always get high wages to begin with.
