Shirley Temple

I find it odd that Shirley Temple was given screen credit for this film. She was barely in the movie unless more of that scene was either cut in editing or lost over time.

There is an uneven editing of the two shots where Shirley is seen; both shots are on the airplane on the way to New York City. In Shirley Temple's first shot it is Chris Farrell's character that hands her a paper airplane. No back story to her character or how they meet other than the obvious - she is also a passenger on the plane. It is immediately followed by a bad edit and a second shot where it is Janet Gaynor's character who is handing Shirley the paper airplane. You see the back and side of Shirley's head for about 5 seconds. Shirley doesn't speak.

Other than her shorts this is her first full length film. Shirley's other films, those in which she starred actually like "Baby Take a Bow" (1934) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024854/ & "Bright Eyes" (1934) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0024914/, were also released in 1934 but came out later in the year.

I saw the credit, but not the actress. How old was she in this film?

reply

Depending on when the production/filming actually took place she would have been either 5 or 6 years old.
