Team Withers!

I adore Shirley Temple but man, Jane Withers comes in this from out of left field and TOTALLY gobbles up the movie in a priceless performance as a spoiled brat! Jane's Joy has got to be the funniest performance ever on screen by a little kid.

It was a great performance by Ms. Withers!

I know! I couldn't believe how outrageous she was. What a MEAN little girl, but so mean that it becomes hilarious. I love the way she tortures the old guy in the wheelchair!

Oh I love Joy's last line a delighted "Oh Mama, now we don't have to be nice to Uncle Ned anymore!"

Love when she takes the first doll (the trash one) and says "You can't have her cos I'm gonna kill her!", then rips her head off.

I'm watching it now, she's hilarious. She is perfect as a spoiled brat. And I love how the parents are trying to raise her with that psychobabble nonsense that is clearly not working.

Love the machine gun! Could have been the grandmother of Calvin who asked Santa Claus for a flamethrower!

Tatum O'Neal and Anna Paquin should mail their Oscars back to the Academy. Jane Withers deserved both of them.

I think Jane was a good little actress and nailed the role perfectly but Shirley's still got her beat. In my book, bratty can never win out over cute and adorable.

What makes kids so special is they're not yet adults. It's a sad thing to see a child behaving like Joy. If she's that bad as a child, chances are she'll be a bigger terror as an adult.

Joy is going to grow up to be a psychopathic killer! No doubt about it. Check out the scene where she pounds the piano. Just think of what she'll do in the future to a human being.....never mind the "killing" of the rag doll!

You may be right. Behavior like that comes from deep inside. If it goes unchecked in childhood it can lead to serious behavioral problems in adulthood. Kids who never learn they can't always get their way; who can't handle disappointment; and who never learn to cope with or handle negative emotions probably won't learn those things later in life either. By the time they're older, they could be ready to kill anyone for the most minor infraction or who get in the way of what they want.
