Contract players

I can only assume that this film was a test vehicle for Ann Southern,Mickey Rooney and others.
The studio had them all under contract and kept them busy working 6 days a week churning out films like this.Hoping something would spark.Southern plugged along then fell into the"Maisey" franchise.Pumping out 10 of them, before the studio milked it dry.

I don't think this was a "test" at all; Ann Sothern was simply signed to Columbia as a B star and this was one of her many B films for the studio. Later she moved on to MGM to somewhat bigger projects but never quite "A" list with a few exceptions. Mickey Rooney was just a supporting actor in this; I don't think he was ever under contract to Columbia. He too went to MGM, becoming a big star in the era.

I'm surprised it took 4 months for someone to comment-I actually just quoted TCM's Robert Osbourne-before the film,he stated as fact that the film was a test vehicle for the above mentioned stars..I twisted it a little to see how many would tell me different ...no ones opinion is safe on these boards-someone always corrects you-
