65 min vs 89 min

I read that the original cut is 65 minutes, and the 89 minute version was released in 1990. It's hard to believe that the shorter version could be any good (they cut 24 minutes!), but of course it has been a classic for decades, and the only version people knew about.

Is there any page where I can read about what they restored? I recorded this movie from TV, I don't know if they have released both versions on DVD.

I know it's a while after you initially posted this, but Criterion released the 2001 re-restoration on Blu-ray/DVD, and there is a supplementary documentary which goes into the editing/censorship history. The disc actually has Jean Vigo's entire filmography (4 films) and all of them have commentary. I highly recommend you look into that if you haven't done so already.
