Why no posts?

Why aren't there any posts on 0 de conduite? I thought this was considered to be one of the best films ever made!

It is, but people are silly, they don't know masterpieces.

Well, I know this great film and think it's absolutely brilliant!
Especially the "pillow fight" scene.

Wonderfully surreal. A definite 10 out of 10.

Maybe we're better off. At least the only people who comment are those who actually feel something towards cinema art, which saves us from all those stupid comments one sees on other boards. Yes, I love this film (even though it really isn't finished), as well as "L'Atalante" and the Nice documentary. In general, I love French film from the '30s, Renoir, Carne, Clair, etc.

It's only available in a PAL edition, that would be my guess. People in North America need to get multi region players, just as I have. Your life will change, that's for sure.

Zero For Conduct is a brilliant film, and so is L'Atalante--and they are far ahead of their time.

Truffaut was so overwhelmed by Vigo that he claims to have seen both films 20 times or more, and that was when there were very few screenings and only in theatres, of course.

If Criterion released the Artificial Eye set, the posts would jump rapidly.

By the way, Zero for Conduct is loosely remade as Lindsay Anderson's If...

I saw it yesterday on VHS tape. I'm in the US and it's not readily available.

Apparently, it is considered to have some controversial aspects. I'd compare it to the musical Spring Awakening in some ways. SA is set in Germany maybe circa 1900 or so, yet a lot was going on, LOL. Here, there is some nudity, even a penis shot, a teacher fondling a boys hand, and things like that. I will say that a number of silent films I've seen were surprisingly bold, showing things that weren't seen in most American films until the 1960s or later.

I'll also mention that even If.... is not readily available in the US. I saw it at the Harvard Film Archive when they showed it one summer.
