I don't care what anybody says, I like the ending

Maybe I'm just a sap for happy endings but I like movies where somebody who doesn't deserve to rot in jail is spared by a judge who knows the difference in what's by the book, and what's right.

Yeah, me too. I liked the judge's compassion towards the kids. Also liked the little acrobatic flourish that Frankie Darro displayed in the last scene. Memorable!

I liked it too. I didn't know people don't like it, but I suppose there are those that think every movie should have a sad or twist ending. :p Leave that to the awesome "I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang", which Bill Hader compared this to in TCM's latest showing.

Agree.

While i guess it did feel a little like a fairy tale ending, this is a movie from and about the Great Depression, and what people wanted, as Sullivan's Travels later told us, was escapism. This brilliant film has more than its share of tragedy and toughness - it's really a powerful experience - and the upbeat conclusion is earned.
