Frank Morgan?

I know Frank Morgan had not yet moved on to his bumbling uncle type roles (peaking with the Wizard of Oz), but I don't understand why the studio thought he was a good fit for this part. The way Myrna and Ann talk about the character, he should be a suave, sexy older man - Ann says women are constantly throwing themselves at him. I'm sorry, but there's no way. Morgan is just smarmy and not very attractive. The movie would be more believable if they found a better foil for Robert Montgomery. Somebody like Charles Boyer or Walter Pidgeon with a lot of gravitas, where you believe Myrna falls for that over Montgomery's attractive but immature character.
