Strangely modern

I am watching 'Three Cornered Moon' (from a Claudette Colbert collection on DVD, purchased on amazon) and finding it strangely modern. At the very beginning of the film, the characters appear with their names beneath them, as if they are greeting the audience. The maid looks so much like someone who could be doing this in an indie flick today - it's eerie.

Then there is the story and acting - so many things about the way some of the characters move or the way they speak and react feel very modern to me. It's amazing - because I guess most of the actors are deceased - the picture was released 83 years ago.

So far, I'm enjoying it very much. Claudette Colbert is just beautiful and so talented.
