We need to bring up the rating on this thing!

Undoubtedly, my love for this film is probably a result of extreme nostalgia. When I was little (2, maybe 3 years old) I would watch this VHS repeatedly. The film intrigued me... the wolf was chilling to me but not in an all-frightening way; his performance scared me just enough to keep me on edge but also keep me coming back time and time again. This villain proved to be the precursor for every film antagonist that I would encounter thereafter. To this day, I rank a villain's effectiveness on how he compares to the original badass, Big Bad Wolf.

After not viewing the film for several, several years, I revisited it last year. I was amazed at the burst of childhood emotions that came bursting back at me. The film gave me goosebumps; the wolf, after a hiatus of over 10 years, returned to send chills down my spine.

Recently, I've tried to raise discussion with some of my friends about the film, assuming it was part of everyone's childhood just as it was my own. To my surprise, I am finding that hardly anyone my age has even heard of Disney's masterpiece of animated shorts. And then I come to this IMDb page, and find hardly any reviews or discussion posts! Have I, for all these years, been living under the false assumption that this was a staple for everyone's childhood?

Yes, Simba, I would say you've been living under a false assumption. For example. I grew up during the sixties. There were no VCR's or DVD players where a kid had the option to watch a favorite movie repeatedly. You could rent 8MM or 16MM films of certain cartoons or films from a camera shop but this wasn't a popular option for the general public. So for a kid my age back then, the only time I saw the Disney film short of "The Three Little Pigs" was when it was featured with a reissue of a Disney classic like "Snow White" or "Bambi." You saw it only once and that was it.

I'm sorry to learn from your post, though, that many from your generation aren't familiar with the many animated classics from Disney.

Thanks for an interesting post.
