I consider this an excellent, intelligent movie. Superb. And the acting is very good. I think this is probably my favourite Lionel Barrymore performance I've ever seen. Very well grounded.

Why this movie hasn't yet been released on DVD I don't understand. It ABSOLUTELY deserves to be!

I agree story wise this is a good movie. The part that drives me crazy is the time frame. Jumping from 1871 the start of the store, to present 1930's does not seem right. The children's ages are off. Present day oldest son would be about 60 not 20 something. This bothered me. It takes away for the good story.
