221A Baker Street

The address is clearly shown several times as 221A Baker street. Everyone knows that it was ALWAYS 221B Baker street (in every Holmes film). Why the difference?

reply

I haven't seen this film yet so I'm not sure how the address is placed, but it has always been my understanding from the books that 221B was Holmes upstairs flat, 221a Mrs Hudson's rooms downstairs, and that the street address should probably just be 221. I'm not sure if that would fit in in this film. Most of the films and series have made 221b a street address, but a couple have presented it as I suggested.

Yes, you are right. And in the film, it shows 221A on the ground floor and then pans up slightly before cutting inside to Holmes and Watson, implying they are above 221A.

Si Vales, Valeo.

Just saw the film on TCM. Not only does a prospective client (along with the audience) see the address on the building as 221A, but Holmes inserts a notice in the Telegraph newspaper listing his address as 221A. Hard to know what the writer was thinking, if anything.
