On TCM October 14th!

at 8:00pm EDT.

A really good movie with fine performances, sharp dialogue and well-filmed by King Vidor.

A forgotten jewel. Don't miss it.

Never heard of it but I'm watching it right now. So far, I'm impressed! Thank you, TCM!

I applaud TCM for finally screening this great movie after decades of obscurity...However, their print is missing the last 40 seconds of the film. It may be the only extant 35mm material (the MGM vault print), but I know the original ending is on the 16mm TV version shown in the early eighties. Tell TCM to restore their digital transfer.
The missing footage, while not critical, does nicely conclude a beautiful film. In the TCM print, Tone tells Miriam "You're a grand girl" and the film ends.In the print I taped off public TV 30 years ago, Simon (Stu Erwin) calls to Miriam "Come on. Boss!"...Miriam says to Tone "he means me!" and she walks over to join in the farming task, while the two wave goodbye. This shows that both of them were mature adults who knew not to destroy the happiness of Tone's wife...the city girl has found her place on the family farm, and Tone the farmer has found his place teaching at a University. Lovely film that should be available on DVD.
