Mae Busch

She was great in this and very attractive. It's hard to believe that she was 41 or 42 years old when this was made. Supposedly, she was very accurate in throwing things and, in "Sons of the Desert" had plenty of opportunities to do just that.

It's too bad that she isn't better remembered today.

She was a great comic actress. Her facial expressions were classic.

She was the most common actress for the role of the short tempered high strung Mrs.Hardy.Probably because she played that part so well. She had played the same role in Unacustomed As We Are,Chickens Come Home, Their First Mistake and The Boheminan Girl.Apparently there was chemistry there.

She was wonderful in this feature, as she was in the other L&H shorts. But she really lived the character in this film; her facial expressions alone were brilliant & totally believable.

And I particularly liked the moment near the end of the film when she had that "ghostly" sensation come over her: again she did it very very well.

And I looked & I beheld a pale horse & the name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him.

Re: the comment above by NostalgiaFan: Mae didn't play Mrs. Hardy in Chickens Come Home -- she played the dangerous ex-girlfriend who blackmails Ollie. In that film, Mrs. Hardy was played by Thelma Todd. But in any case, and in any role, Mae Busch played off both Stan and Ollie beautifully. I love the extended argument scene in Sons of the Desert; she throws herself into it with a gusto that's almost scary to watch.
