Logical Flaw

Most of the time, logic doesn't bother me, but this film has one particularly problematic flaw. The cover story is a trip to Honolulu, but on an ocean liner the trip from LA to Honolulu would take at least a week each way. That would require an absence from the wives of at least two weeks NOT INCLUDING any time they would supposedly spend in Honolulu recuperating. The trip from LA to Chicago by rail would take only two days each way (less if an express like the Santa Fe Super Chief were used). How were the Boys going to explain the extra time?
