Kinda funny how he runs away from NY to avoid the lawsuits over all the death and destruction Kong caused only to go back to the Island where Kong also caused death only to steal the treasure and presumably cause the Island to sink, killing off the rest of the natives!

Oh not to mention the priceless array of scientific research and live dinosaurs.

The treasure was booby trapped. Anyone who took it would cause the destruction of the island. Raiders of the Lost Ark copied this trend in the opening scene in the cave when Indy tried taking that statue

Denham didn't destroy the island and everything on it; an earthquake did that instead.
