Two Weak-Willed Men!

Joel McCrea and Eric Linden play two of the worse mama's boys I've ever seen! You get the feeling that McCrea is supposed to be the "hero" because he and Irene Dunne are the leads, while Linden is supposed to be the one who is totally dependent on his mother. But in my opinion, both are completely taken in by her (Laura Hope Crewes is perfect in this part).

I don't have much hope for the marriage of Dunne and McCrea. Sure, he goes after her at the very end, but he never stands up to his mother after an entire movie of her manipulating him and his brother. And he's not really apologetic to Dunne. I feel like his mother will suck him back in to her clutches soon.

Run, Irene! You can do better.
