Whatever happened to this film?

As the first poster on this film's board, I can only assume that this query will be a long time in getting a reply, but I'm patient. Anyway, I remember this film being aired on television quite frequently when I was a kid way back in the sixties, then poof! it disappeared totally. It seems to be unavailable in any home video format. A pity, because it's a nice little film. Has anyone seen this film on VHS or DVD? Or even on TV? Thanks for your eventual replies!

I'm happy to give you a response, and hopefully sooner than you expected. My Dad had an extensive collection of films from the 30s thru the 50s that I inherited, all recorded off TV and this little gem was among them. It was an enjoyable Saturday night thriller and of course I had to time it so it ended just past 1:00AM, lol.

As far as availability, several sources cite it as never being released on video in any form. I even consulted some video catalogs from the 80s and none of them list it.

From the ads I noted, my Dad's copy (on Betamax!) was recorded off commercial TV in 1987. I don't monitor TCM's listings as closely as I should but I wonder if someone on the Classic Film board knows of a more recent showing.

Your response was MUCH sooner than I expected! So the movie was shown on TV as late as 1987? As I said before the last time I saw it was in the sixties. It might show up on DVD some day on a little label like Alpha. Here's hoping! Thanks for your amazingly early reply!

Eight months later - a reply!

I happened to locate this film on VHS about five years ago from an obscure company that no longer exists. Not the best quality, but pretty good for a film I thought had been lost forever. (I also remember it being on many times during the 70s and watching it as a kid).

If you'd like a copy, reply here and we can make arrangements.

I'm thankful that films like this are more available now than they've ever been. I'm gradually making my way through the 1930s rarities which I thought I would never see.
