You have to remember that not only was this filmed in 1933, but on an extremely small budget.

IMO its a great little film, good story line, some great action scenes along with some unusual stunts like breathing through a reed underwater.

For its time period and given its budget I think its better than average. It's one of Dukes better Lone Star films, in my opinion.

The DVD I got was produced by Legend Films and Genius Productions and was nicely remastered. The original audio track must have been in bad shape because the foley (reproduction of sound effects which are added in post-production to enhance the quality of audio for films) was redone, and new orchestration was added.

Overall, a nice 'pocket Western' with a decent story and of course, impressive stunt work by the master, Yakima Canutt.

Ethereal-Cloud: Yak played Ed Walsh in this movie, but I'm not sure which character that was. Was Walsh the gang leader?

reply

Yakima's character Walsh is the gang leader. He's the one with a V-shaped scar on his face.

I think this is a 4/10, too. Some good scenes and camera work, and solid pacing, but a lot of silly plot holes and weak acting from everyone but Wayne (whose character is annoyingly idiotic all the same.) It suffers from trying to do too much with the short time and low budget.
