OK..so this is the great Garbo?

Finally watched one of her movies..wait this was the second I believe and wondered what all the hoopla was about her. First, what struck me was her distinctive voice, with a slight accent, which that alone had set her apart from her contemporaries. Her acting was just so-so...not bad, but for all I read about her..disappointing to me. She looked a lot better in "Camille" and gave an impressive performance in that one. Great beauty? I thought she was very attractive and leave it at that.. there have been other actress's that I have admired for their beauty, more than hers.I could see where she did stand out during her time, in the early '30's...but could not believe she would have had such success in today's cinema. It was a different time ..a different era...each era seemed to produce an outstanding actor or actress's. BTW, I have seen in various clips of her flop movie...the last one she made, and kind of liked what she had shown there ..she was, shall I say...more loose and down to earth. Sorry if I may offended some Garbo fans...but that is my take on her. Maybe she realized it to and decided not to make any more movies as she did. For that I will give her credit.

that's funny, came here to say exactly what you said, but slightly harsher

acting: unnatural
looks: has manly features
filmography: mediocre

Flesh and the Devil was the only remotely interesting movie she made

so many movies, so little time

her last film was terrible. The plot is very silly, and is not helped by the fact that censorship meant it had to be changed to make it even sillier. it was a flop, and i imagine that is why garbo stopped making films. her second to last film, Ninotchka, is much better, a very funny comedy.

Queen Christina is Garbo's highest rated film.
