Best Film Ever, Inspiring 1933

So I turned on TCM and saw this movie. At first, I thought, "okay, old movie whatever." Then I kept it on and Charles L. who was simply riveting and so were his supporting cast. At first he plays a disdainful character, one you at first do not like and hope misfortunes fall upon, but then this fine actor gets you feeling sympathetic when the one he actually loves, betrays or un requites his love. How many of us has had this happen? In the final scenes you can't help but want to hug him! Now I am a fan of older films and if you don't like black and white, then keep watching "dancing with the stars" and you will remain stuipid. If however you are attracted to art and fine acting, please view this movie. I saw it 3 months ago and still think of it fondly. I love TCM's intro also :)

I agree with you; Laughton was a brilliant talent with no equal. IMO, the best to grace Hollywood.

I love old movies such as this AND "Dancing With the Stars" ... What does that make me?

It's certainly a fantastic piece of acting on Laughton's part. His interpretation of Henry the man was sensational. Historically inaccurate to certain details though it is, I nevertheless feel that he captures some kind of kernel of truth that works really well, is wickedly witty and, in the end, supremely moving at the same time. He is both strident and whimpering in the same film - but that's the nature of the journey he takes us on.
