Spellling was very flexible in tjose days, people spelled their names in all kinds of ways.

Oh, for argument's sake I'll mention that erratic spelling was characteristic of the period, even of christian and surnames. Finally, I recall to you Samuel (dictionary) Johnson's observation - "It is a dull man who can spell a word only one way."
