Reviews

Quite a number of clueless, shallow reviews here by those who do not appreciate genius from another period. (Also some excellent insightful reviews, by the way)

The message and the acting are timeless. It is still completely relevant and just as relatable after 80 years. My estimation of Spencer Tracy was already very high before I discovered this early classic, and is now strongly reinforced. He is in very select company indeed. Great actors are all versatile, but Tracy was breathtakingly so.

I watched this out of interest in its possible influence on Citizen Kane, and my love for Preston Sturges, but enjoyed it much more than I expected. It's done really well.
