A certain resemblence

A nice little pre-code movie. There were times in this movie when Warner Baxter has an uncanny resemblance to William Powell pre-Thin Man. There's a scene where he has the tux, top hat, pencil thin mustache, et al, and he and Loy are sparking, joking with each other and staring into each other's eyes. You could see the future Nora Charles taking shape.

Anybody else see that?

I saw it too. I truly enjoyed Myrna Loy in this film.

I didn't think he looked like William Powell but the Thin Man series did come to mind. I wondered if this role wasn't what helped Loy get the part of Nora Charles.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

No knock on Baxter, who did a fine job, but it felt like he was subbing for Powell in this excellent film.

Powell's presence would have called for a slightly lighter tone and a little more emphasis on dialogue. You can easily imagine his scenes with Nat Pendleton. And of course, he and Loy were pure magic, though her role here is different from Nora Charles.

(So to answer your question- Yeah!)
