My favorite Philo Vance mystery

This is my favorite Philo Vance mystery. Good story, clever ending, and they had the best actors for all the "regulars" like Vance and Doremus.

I'm also very fond of "The Dragon Murder Case" and "The Greene Murder Case".

Hey, Mrs. EQ, I'm showing this to my movie group Sunday night along with MR. MOTO'S LAST WARNING...They should enjoy the two vintage detective movies.

Enjoy!

I still want to see the Mr. Moto movies.

Last winter, I watched all the Charlie Chans (Warner Oland, Sidney Toler) and more recently I saw all the Saint and Falcon movies starring George Sanders. Also the Whistler movies (with Richard Dix). I guess Mr. Moto will be next.

I haven't seen any of the Whistler movies since I was a kid...I liked them then. I was also a fan of the weekly "The Whistler" radio series and hope to eventually see the movies to see if they do as well with twist endings as the radio series did.

There are a lot of radio plays on archive.org. I have listened to some of them, but I find it easier to concentrate either on reading or on watching movies. With one exception, I found that the Whistler movie endings were pretty good, but not fantastic. In some ways, they almost seemed too gentle. I can't quite explain it. Oh well...

I like your sig, BTW.

Oh, I also had a chance to see some of the Perry Mason movies from the thirties. I love those creaky old mysteries from before 1950.

BTW, nice to see you on the boards again!

All the Philo Vance films I have seen have been above-average mysteries. I think their author, S.S Van Dine, deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as Agatha Christie. My favorite is probably THE CASINO MURDER CASE.

I'm glad you like them!

I've really been getting into a lot of pre-1950 mysteries, especially those from the thirties. I've been reviewing some of them on the film noir board. Some others have made some contributions to my thread.

Taking a break these days, but in the new year, I'll start up again with reviewing those old films.
