What iss da law?

Haven't seen this film in probably 30 years or more, but I still knew every bit of "the law' before seeing the quote on the IMDB page. What a great movie, by my recollection.

As an aside (hang in there...it's relevant): in our household, the person who takes the garbage bag out of the waste can for emptying is responsible for immediately replacing it. This way, the next person who has something to throw into the garbage doesn't have to first get a bag from under the sink, shake it open, etc., etc. This is known as THE LAW! If one of us forgets, the other will surely proclaim, "What is the law?"

Your law sounds scary!

Another strange cultural reference, which I had never known before, was Oingo Boingo's song "No Spill Blood"... "What... is... the law? NO SPILL BLOOD!" Now I know where it comes from.

reply

Whenever the beast-men chanted "are we not men? " my brain immediately supplied the next line, "we are Devo!"

reply

I did the same thing! Fellow child of the 80s!

Am I anywhere near the imaginary cliff?

reply

Same here. And in the final scene, "Whip It".

reply

I wonder, does your household have a similar rule about using the toilet?

"What is the Law?"

"Not to leave the seat up; that is the Law. Are we not men?"

Well, I guess that's the problem!

All the universe . . . or nothingness. Which shall it be, Passworthy? Which shall it be?

speaking of songs, another great one is The Cramps "The Natives Are Restless" - awesome psychobilly if you're into that sort of stuff

reply

Just saw this again after decades. It conjured up Devo and The Cramps, for sure, and also the name of the group House of Pain.
