Skits

Later TV variety comedy shows must have used the format of this movie. It was a variety of different comic skits, singing and dancing loosely tied to a story of people from different places coming together at the International House to view a remarkable invention. At times I could see images of Laugh In and Rowen and Martin copying this brilliant film.

This movie is reflecting the state of the Broadway show of the 1920s and early 30s. They were big grab bags of all kinds of different things. If you didn't like one bit, you would probably like the next. No need to have a through story line was present yet. That would come later in the decade with Showboat, but even that has at least one non-sequitur son (about Bill) in it.
