Mae West's Singing

I quite liked it; I didn't realise she was also a singer...What a talented lady!

She sings in nearly every one of her movies, even the ones made in old age. A lot of people love Mae's bluesy way with a song. She even made a couple of rock n'roll albums in the 1960's!

Hah! Didn't know about her 60's albums ... I'll have to look for them.

She was a great singer! I love how she does a caricature of herself and yet makes it work beautifully. She's a timeless classic beauty with wonderful comedic timing.

Mae West sang comedically, but she she also sang with a sure blues voice. Her whole persona was intrinsically funny, but it was also thoroughly grounded in reality. There were a lot of NY gals at the time who sounded a lot like her. She picked it up and built it out of that attitude. If she was a caricature, it was an exquisitely observed caricature.
