Probably about a size 6 (36-26-36). Mae West was short (barely over 5') and she would have had to have worn some serious shoes in order to even be in the frame with Cary Grant who at that time was at least a solid 6'1. She looks pudgy sometimes simply because she was small

Well, film makes you look at least 20 pounds heavier than you really are. And sizes were totally different back then.
My mother was 5 foot 3 and about 100 pounds and she wore a perfect size 12 in 1956. In the 1930's, dress sizes only went down to a 10. Some very exclusive lines were available in an "8" and that was considered VERY small. Sizes like 0, and 2 were unheard of.
So if we're going by TODAY'S sizing, I'd say Mae looks like a size 12-14 in this film. With a very tight body shaper (otherwise known as a GIRDLE) she might have squeezed into a 10.
Can we talk about Cary Grant's size? He looks emaciated in this movie. I'll bet his waist was a 28.
