Awesome movie

Loved it. Very ahead of its time. Wonder how much even better the films in the "Golden Age" would have been without the Hayes Code.
Some user comment complained this film was agit-Commie propoganda. Yet the original owner of the laundry company was very benevolent and treated his employees fairly. It was only after his death that the new owners fired the staff and had any protesting employees bashed.
Also, I got a sense of slight homo-eroticism in the scenes between Roger and Tom. Especially, Roger. He came off as somewhat in love with Tom.

reply

Please---no homo-eroticism! Roger just seemed embarrassed and ashamed of himself, as well he should have, in their joint scenes, or trying to make amends (as when Tom was working at the bank). There was nothing faggy about Tom!

reply

Agreed, nothing homoerotic whatsoever. Funny to see these constant attempts to find that sort of thing. Then again, we live in a much different culture than that of 1933; what comes off as homoerotic today was likely not intended to for depression-era audiences...

reply

Oh puh-lease! STOP it! There was no homo-eroticism, except in your sick little mind. You are one sick puppy, dude!
