Hope for another version

I've not seen or read the O'Neill play but I wish this could have been done more seriously.
Less cartoonish.
The story has potential to be extremely impressive on screen. I'm not in favor of remakes, but considering this was 1933 and the fact something seems lacking here in the original...I'd love to remake this.

Place more depth in the characters and a greater scope in the rise of the Emperor Jones.

I'm not sure anyone would ever finance another film version of this (political correctness, yknow), but maybe a cable channel could take a chance. There is also a radio version from the late 40s that I've heard starring Canada Lee and Boris Karloff!

May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?

I know this is an old thread and the two posters may not even be here anymore, but yes this is one of the few movies I'd like to see remade as well.
