Deluge - Update about possibe release in 2015

Someone posted this today on the AMIA board regarding this film and I thought I would share:

Also found: A pristine original nitrate 35mm print of DELUGE -- the original English version, not the Italian-dubbed one. Look for it to be re-introduced to the world early next year through Films Around the World and a major archive.

Well it's near the end of 2015 and still no word of Deluge being found in the original English language and being released on video. Hope this wasn't just a rumor

reply

Looks like it was just a rumor. It's 2016 and have not found any info about a newly discovered English print.

DVDSavant has a link to the French film festival showing a good print of "Deluge" with French subtitles in September 2016.

It has been posted on the Classic Horror Film Board that Kino Lorber has acquired the 35MM print and will be releasing it, though no date has been given.

I saw Deluge last sunday at the Etrange Festival in Paris, thanks to the amazing restoration of Lobster Film & Kino Lorber (2 differents companies but they often work together) !

They WILL release it but I don't know when. You can check their catalog at http://shop-lobsterfilms.com

Just came here to report the same news about Kino-Lorber. They plan a 2K restoration for both Blu-ray and DVD release but as poster rstef1 said, no date has yet been set. At this point it looks like 2017 will probably be the year.

The good news is that this will be the original English-language version from a print found in France and restored with difficulty but, we're told, back to its original form. Until recently the original American film had been considered lost.

This will be a welcome improvement over the Italian-dubbed version Forry Ackerman discovered in Italy years ago, which did have a VHS release in the 90s. That was certainly better than nothing but having the original film is great news.

So now at least we know the Deluge is coming. Stay tuned.

Fantastic news indeed and it is a good bet, with its restorations and original English language form, I will probably enjoy the movie more as a result, though I will not throw away my VHS Italian dubbed version. Who knows, in time that could become a collector's item! 

Thanks for the interest in Kino Lorber! "Deluge" is currently being released theatrically in several repertory screenings. A home video release would come along after these have winded down, so I would look for an announcement about this in the upcoming year.

So there it is. Bottom line is that it's COMING SOON. Kino says 2017, and I'm super exited about it.

Full information on the home video release of Deluge has been posted in another thread on this board (with the release date in the subject line) since November 23, 2016, and just updated. The release date of February 7, 2017 was announced three weeks ago. Nothing indefinite about it. Just look a little more closely at the board.

As an aside, someone should tell Mr. Furse to actually check out his company's own releases, since he doesn't appear to have known on December 7 that Kino had announced the date of the DVD and Blu releases two weeks earlier. They should also tell him that there is no such word as "winded", as in his phrase, "winded down". Wound down, Ramsey. A guy who can't write proper English and doesn't know what his own company is doing as K-L's office manager. Brilliant.
