The odd thing is, TCM had scheduled NIGHT CLUB LADY, right next to its airing of CIRCUS QUEEN MURDER... but then pulled it for some reason. It's a shame. I've seen both films, and though both are of interest-- and CIRCUS QUEEN does have an edge in tone and mood-- I prefer the pure whodunit structure of NIGHT CLUB LADY.
Hopefully, they'll find a slot to put NIGHT CLUB LADY in very soon. Maybe they had a print that had damage to the picture or soundtrack and intend to find a more presentable one.
I came in at the last half hour of this film and enjoyed the part I saw.I would love to see this again soon and the other film mentioned here.I love TCM but I really don't understand why some movies are repeated almost monthly and others rarely get shown more than once a year.I just saw all these flims in a matter of days and all are coming on again this week.My Favorite Wife has aired at least 2 other times in the last month and was on last week!
Stage Door (1937)
Bringing Up Baby (1938)
Five Came Back (1939)
My Favorite Wife(1949)
It's Saks! There's a reason why Winona stole from there.Their stuff is gorgeous!
Saw it today as well and I thought it was the usual creaky old time waster most other mysteries are from that period. The lip reading gimmick, though, was cute. As usual Dwight Frye was wasted. He had much better luck on the stage.
Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.
