Stylish opening credits

Now that this short is available on DVD it's nice to see the original opening credits, very cleverly crafted. I love the way the buzz-saw slices through each title card to reveal the next, throwing off sawdust as it goes. This continues all the way to the first live action shot, of Stan and Ollie riding along in their Model-T.

I still have the print of this film I bought from Blackhawk in the '70s. Apparently due to a copyright issue (because the M-G-M logo appeared at the bottom of the screen under the title), they had to remove the opening credits, and substitute their generic black-on-white lettering. You can hear the buzz-saw, but you can't see the effect until the finale.

In any case, it's one of those creative touches that make the Hal Roach shorts such a pleasure to revisit.
