Has anyone seen the new DVD yet?

Does anyone have the new Universal DVD? How is the transfer?
I hear it does not have any extras -sad

I have it. The transfer is quite good. Nice contrast and detail, some film grain visible. Universal does a good job with these old films when they bother to release them. There are no extras on the disc at all, and not even a booklet. It is a bare bones release, but much better than the low quality bootlegs which have been around for years.

Is it the 77 minute cut for TV version, or the full 90 minute theatrical release?

reply

It is the 77 minute version. I have heard that was the tv version but without any source to back it up. The AFI catalog from 1931-1940 indicates 75-76 min was the playing time on release, so it may have been cut prior to being released.

I too just bought the DVD and I agree it is a good version. The film grain is nice though. Being a photographer, we do enjoy that a little bit. Really adds to the fact that it was an older movie.
