Very tough!!

I love the 'attitude' in these pre-code movies. The casualness/visual symbolism with which it is referred to inmates 'burning' towards the end seems particularly brutal!

Some of the dialogue is pretty unbelievable too - that opening scene on the train where ST is being taken to Sing Sing, and one of the crew says something along the lines of 'no broad would be willing to give you a tumble if you were the last man on earth on a desert island'. It's incredible to think that dialogue that salty was very shortly met with a hiatus of nearly 50 years!!
