I missed the most important part!

Jimmy had just gone to the police station to tell them that he saw the guy (Toots?) at Gert's house the night she died, when Toots and Lil walked in to refute his story. I went to get a drink -- was only gone a moment or two -- and when I walked back in, Mae was free from jail, and she and Jimmy were kissing! How did Mae get out of jail? Did Lil change her mind about alibying for Toots?

If I got the names wrong, I apologize.....

******Spoiler alert******

Yes, Lil told the truth about Toots' whereabouts, not being with Lil all night, as had been previously said, and he was getting ready to skip town. So, the suspicion fell on him, & off of her.

Good update Vixen, and just for further clarification, the ending scene of the movie was also packaged nicely and very satisfying.

Overall, I thought this was a really good movie, and showed the range of Lombard's acting ability.

Sorry, being a great Lombard fan, I overlooked Pat's role. You're right, he was fantastic in the movie as well. I really liked how his character stayed loyal to Lombard through thick and thin, even though he had felt betrayed by her.

Thanks for the reply!

It was the only explanation I could think of -- that probably Lil had started feeling guilty about Mae taking the rap and told the truth....

Mayo Methot, who played the good girl Lil Blair, was married to Humphrey Bogart for a while: (21 August 1938 - 10 May 1945) (divorced).
