cute kid actors

Two of the cutest kid actors I have ever seen. I live the gestures they make. The kick gesture is the best

The younger kid here -- Tomio Aoki -- worked for Ozu for 8 or 9 years (from the time he was five or so). He was just old enough to get drafted towards the end of WW2. He survived luckily - and worked for a number of years as a contract performer at Nikkatsu Studio in the 50s and 60s He then went off to more steady work (of some sort) for decades. His career had a final burst of glory when he was in his 70s.

Other especially major roles for him -- Passing Fancy and Tokyo Inn.

Hi Kerpan,

Cheers for that info. Just looked at Aoki's wiki page for more but there wasn't much - it'd be great if you or someone else who knows something about this unforgettable actor would post a little bio of him on his imdb page...

BTW, the link on the wiki page of Passing Fancy for your essay of same doesn't seem to be working.

Cheers for all the insights over the years, mate.

Time for a new signature, perhaps. Hmmmm...

Ozu definitely had a particular talent for directing kids. That has to be really hard work. Kids, by virtue of being kids, don't come with much acting experience, and it's hard for adults to capture the way kids see the world and how they behave. But Ozu was able to do it, and in fact he had a real knack for it. That's quite rare. Another great kid movie directed by Ozu was "Good Morning". If you haven't seen it, you should.
