Art Deco In Three on a Match

Any other Art Deco fans enjoy this movie? The Art Deco elements were a treat. From the writing in the office building to the cruise ship to the nightclub to the gorgeous car waiting at the curb while the two old men gossip about the 2 Mrs. Kirkwoods.

Funny how a lot of the underground, criminals didn't have much Art Deco in their tenement apartment. Maybe it was just for the rich folks?

Have you seen "Trouble in Paradise"? Great deco in that. Also in some of the early Astaire-Rogers movies.

Yeah, I did see "Trouble in Paradise" and I liked it a lot. A lot of movies about rich folks from the late 1920s through the mid 1930s has awesome art deco. People just took it for granted, it was just background to them.

Kinda like walking by a stack of gold bricks every day when you are already wealthy.

Agreed. When you (best on a 2nd or 3rd watching) "look past" the primary action in a period film like that, you see a LOT of very cool Deco. And you're right; it was just props. Makes one wonder where all that stuff eventually went, doesn't it? Likely -- and sadly -- largely tossed by the studios once it went out of vogue.

Luckily, some rich folks Art Deco survived to today. I recently discovered https://www.1stdibs.com/

Just search for art deco and prepared to be in the lap of luxury. They have a wide range of stuff from the early days to the most commercial part of the era.

The Thin Man films and Astaire/Rogers films had the best Art Deco!
