Jean Harlow with Bee-Stung Lips

Did you notice that during her smalltown years at the drugstore fountain (apparently still in 1931-32), they had Jean wearing her lipstick in the bee-stung style of the 1920's ala Mae Murray and Barbara LaMarr. I thought that was a very clever touch, playing on the old belief that small towns are a few years behind the big cities in current styles and such. Interestingly, she wore it that way again in the final scene yet for her final shot it appears they forgot to match her lipstick with the earlier shots of the segment as it's a lighter shade.

This movie also reminded me how much I love those old-fsahioned ice cream soda glasses - I have just got to buy some.

Back before telecommunications (the forms that included video, anyway) and chain stores selling the same things everywhere: It wasn't just a "belief". It was a fact.

Movies had probably started to erode that lag time by this point (1932), but I don't that the phenomenon had completely disappeared yet.
