Watched it today on TCM

This is the Night is a lovely little trifle and shows how moves made in 1932 were moving away from the stactic shots of the early talkies. A great deal of montage and music to keep the movement going. TCM broadcast a lovely print with blue tinted night scenes. Also interesting to see a very young Cary Grant too in his first movie.

Actually, if you want to go earlier than that, I have "Singapore Sue", his first appearance on film he made the year before, uploaded. Very rare. IM me and I'll send you the link.

Hi TexasGreek,

Thanks so much for the gracious offer but I've seen it, a cute little Paramount short. This Is The Night really gave him a part, a rather silly but fun part.

I watched it today on the Criterion Channel. I thought it dragged in parts and the screenplay wasn't as funny or smart as it could have been. Decent performances. Not great, but still worth seeing for Cary Grant's debut. 5/10 is my rating.
