Shoes on the wrong way

Ok, I'm not sure I got it but when Grump comes back and say " you told me to tail her" and he has his shoes on the wrong way..was this sexual. Like he slept with her and he put on his shoes on the wrong way? That's what I'm guessing. The cousin seemed really free in that she was flirting with the cop and just had that air about her.

Yeah, he definitely tailed AND nailed her.

I just watched this film and I took that as a play on words.

"You told me to tail 'er!" or "You told me to tailor!" (as in spruce up!)

I'm probably wrong. I look for puns everywhere!
