Were animals actually killed?

Hi!

Were animals actually killed during the making of the Tarzan series? I realise that some of them were stuffed (!) and many were rear film projections, but did they actually kill any animals for this film? (I hope NOT!).

PS I DID read the other thread, but does anyone know for SURE???

Thank you,

I don't think that any animals were harmed in this one, save possibly for a big cat which appeared to suffer something of an uncomfortable (but non-fatal) drop.

Unfortunately, there were animals killed a year before in director W.S. Van Dyke's earlier jungle adventure Trader Horn. Stock footage of those animal conflicts and casualties would appear in later Tarzan films.

Some of those hippo scenes seemed as if they were being killed...

Some guy on CNN just now mentioned that the actor actually killed one of the animals.
