thesnowleopard says > in the book, Tarzan himself holds back and acts like a Victorian gentlemen after a moment of kissing and heavy petting, even though Jane is *really* hot for it; there isn't an actual sex scene
I just watched this movie again; which is rare for me, but whenever its on I watch it. Now I'll just save it on DVR because I love this movie that much! It's so basic and yet so sexy. It's a jungle movie but I see it more as a simple love story. I love the subtlety of Tarzan and Jane's relationship.
I also love the way Tarzan was living in the jungle alone all that time but he instinctively and immediately knew what to do with a woman. I even like the way Tarzan manhandles Jane (she obviously liked that too) yet he's also playful and romantic in his own way. Today people seem very confused about this whole sex thing. When Jane wasn't ready and didn't want to go 'there' she made it abundantly clear; enough for a man with no language skills to understand. Then, when she was willing, she let him know that too.
I've never read the book but in the movie it's clear they had sex after the swimming scene. It was subtle but I'm not sure how anyone could have missed it. Still, if they did, what Jane says and does afterward says it all. And, when she tells Tarzan, "that sentence says a lot..." it's because with a few words, he described exactly what had happened between them. It's so specific it could even be considered obscene.
They do eventually have a son, but they get married first and it's long after they leave the jungle.
Boy, their son, was adopted/found. I don't remember all the details but he wasn't born to them. I don't know how it's dealt with in the book or if it's even addressed but if there was such a couple, they'd probably end up with a few kids.
Then again, it's also possible that lifestyle would not be conducive to having children. Jane would be running around as much as Tarzan. Women with very active lives sometimes have trouble conceiving because there's a lot of stress on their bodies; their body fat percentage is too low, and they might miscarry long before they realize they're pregnant. Obviously the tribes people have kids in the jungle. It would be more difficult for tree dwellers but not impossible.
Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]
