BTW it's even historically accurate. Women often fought dwarves. To a Roman, nothing was a bigger kneeslapper than a disemboweled dwarf bleeding to death in agony.
shareI was more impressed by the one that was beheaded. It seems DeMille was just so far ahead of nearly everyone else in terms of being outrageous in the mainstream.

When the restored version of this film finally ran on TV in the early 90s, The Washington Post's TV critic, Tom Shales, after describing the above scenes -- dwarf impaled by Amazon and hoisted around the arena, dwarf beheaded (an astounding scene!), not to mention not one but two virtually naked girls being sacrificed to gorilla and crocodiles, respectively -- commented: "Oh that Cecil!"
