Then, after he'd proposed, he stayed the night. At least, that was implied, as he was there for breakfast. In those days that was enough to get a woman locked away. Not the man, of course. I'm glad we don't do that any more.

Today we are so used to having everything so blatant and thrown in our faces it's hard for some people to notice subtlety.
