Awesome

This movie is great. It's a fast-paced movie for the 30's I enjoyed watching.

About a year ago from today I checked it out at a local library who doesn't carry the copy anymore because the library is updating to DVD's which sucks because all the good ones are only on VHS. If you like classic movies and want to be on the edge of your seat I suggest that you watch it.

It's a very good film, and those who abandoned VHS must deal with the consequences of their decision for the sake of "convenience" or whatever their reasoning. These pre-Code nasties are a fascinating reminder of the foibles of human nature. 7/10 stars from me.

Hi Warped Record,

Just got this on dvd from Netflix with another pre-Code movie: the original Waterloo Bridge that a very young Bette Davis has a bit part in.

Some of the funny dialogue in Red-Headed Woman was so good. The screenplay, was written by Anita Loos, who wrote Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - and the first words out of Jean Harlow's mouth as she's getting her hair dyed red is 'who says gentlemen prefer blondes?'

Terrific movie with so many good one-liners.

Best,
Ruben

Hello, Ruben:

Glad you liked it! I thought it was a lot of fun with snappy dialogue and colorful characters.

Say, how is "Waterloo Bridge"? Is it worth seeking out?

reply

Hi WarpedRecord,

Yes, I enjoyed Waterloo Bridge - I had seen the older 1940 film version with Robert Taylor and Vivien Leigh and didn't realize an earlier version was on film. The older version seems almost like a stage play and the actor who portrays Roy is very natural and believable. Also, seeing such a young Bette Davis was really cool although one sees much of Bette Davis' back at the dining room table. The dvd is a real treat that's included with Red-Headed Woman.

Best,
Ruben

Hello, Ruben:

Thanks very much for the details. I shall seek "Waterloo Bridge" out. I love watching Bette Davis' career through various eras, though often she seems underused in earlier films. Clearly she had a focus on the craft of acting that unfortunately eluded many directors and studios until she took control of her career and started taking the roles she should have had all along. Cheers!
