they were both originally considered for Harlow's role. The film would have gone in an entirely different direction!
shareJean Harlow was perfect as Vantine, although I can imagine Joan Crawford in Mary Astor's role...she and Gable would've had some explosive chemistry, considering they were having an affair at the time.
