Camera work in the film

Since I refuse to subscribe to cable/satellite I had to rent the film from Netflix. I'm glad that I did because I had to see again the incredible camera work in the film.

What struck me the most is that not once, but twice, the camera made a complete circle around that dinner table. I couldn't believe it. I'm not an expert, but I don't think they had hand held cameras back in those days, and the camera would have been connected to a power source. The movement was smooth so that means somebody(-ies) were moving a bunch of cable while the camera moved around the table. The whole room moved so I doubt that the table was built on a turntable.

There was more than one tracking shot that covered a considerable distance and I was equally impressed with that.

What irks me is that I have yet to find any information on how the production of the movie was done.

Yes, I liked the story, and the long takes made it looked as though it was the filming of a stage play. However, the dialogue flew by without much of a break for "acting." So, it was kind of difficult to follow the dialogue. It took awhile to catch up with the story.

I haven't seen this in years but I remember being impressed with the camerawork. Very mobile for 1932. You rarely saw that type of shot back then. It's very underrated visually.
