Students

That was interesting to see an integrated class of students in this 1932 film. And students never change... the homework jokes were funny.

I also loved these lines:

Inspector Piper: "I'm trying to think."

Mrs. Withers: "Sounds bad. Mind if I sit down while you do it?"

And the telephone operator scene, when Mrs. Withers comments on the operator's "disgusise," as she is putting on makeup.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

One more neat thing about this film is that the policeman falls for the woman's intellect!

I've seen that before in other movies. Life in the big city, usually in the North, was very different than rural or even city life in the South. People had no choice but to co-mingle and co-exist. I've even seen this in silent movies made in the twenties.

People often talk about race relations as if it's this one single thing. It's either good or bad. The truth is, like with most things, it depends on where and who you are. Some people will always have problems with other people. They'll always find a reason be it race, religion, ethnicity, socio-economic standing, manner of dress, physical attributes, etc. Others do not have those issues. Sometimes we focus so much on the problems in society we fail to appreciate when things are as they should be.
